I've re-written this little blurb about twelve times now and still, nothing seems right. I apologize if this is a bit much to read.
This song is very personal to me as it is about how I learnt to deal with my fear of dying. Not being religious, I used to be terrified of what came "after". I became very good at ignoring or pushing out the bad thoughts until one day, when life threw me a heart related hard time, all those thoughts came barreling back into the front of my head.
I went a few years trying hard to ignore how it made me feel but it continued to get harder and harder to deal with. It was at that point when I became fortunate enough to meet someone who talked through it all with me. He was kind and understanding. For a short period of time, he showed me how to seize the day and told me that whatever I expected to happen after it all ended is what would happen. I now expect the mountains past the ocean and to see a swift sunrise. I had found my peace. When that short period of time ended, he continued to show me that there was light to the darkness and that I could not just survive through the hand I was given, but thrive. I could not possibly thank him enough for that.
The main lines were taken from Jonsi's, We Bought a Zoo, and yes, there is some Lord of the Rings imagery in there as well.
I'm forever thankful for the girls of Lady Harmony for helping make this song possible.
I hope you enjoy it,
Megan
lyrics
When we were young, we ran away from home
Our worst fears then grew from our closets, and under the bed
The shadows creeping overhead
Times were simpler fears could be conquered
with night-lights and kisses from the ones we love
I’m quickly getting tired of
Being scared; facing life thats so uncertain
Though the dark is looming
We need to start assuming light will come
We are young,
Let’s throw caution to the wind
We can ride on the breeze
Take us anywhere the we might please
And when the night she comes
She’ll swallow us sans mercy
I will not forget
Je me souviens
(Instrumental)
I wanna see the mountains past the ocean
and watch a swift sunrise while darkness slips on by
Let us
Climb the roof with arms wide open
and shout out to the world that we are not afraid
Watch me skip across the street,
I’ll fall, I’ll scape my knees, and take off running again
And when my days are done,
I’ll sit an hum
and bake apple rhubarb pie
I will survive.
